Monday, August 6, 2012 The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Monday set a new date for recording the deposition of Sultana Kamal, adviser to a former caretaker government, against war crimes suspect Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ghulam Azam.
Sultana Kamal, also executive director of Ain O Salish Kendra, will now give her testimony before the tribunal against Ghulam Azam on September 10 in connection with his alleged crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War.
Earlier, the tribunal set Monday for recoding the deposition of Sultana Kamal but the tribunal re-fixed the date as it has to complete the cross-examination of Helal Uddin, investigation officer of a case against another war crimes accused Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee.
Last Thursday, the tribunal in an order asked the defence counsel to complete the cross-examination by Wednesday. Sayedee's counsel cross-examined Helal Uddin yesterday for the 43rd day.
The three-member panel led by its Chairman Justice Nizamul Huq also set August 27 for recording regular testimony of witnesses against Ghulam Azam.
Ghulam Azam was indicted on May 31 on five charges based on 60 incidents of crimes against humanity. The charges include involvement in murder and torture of unarmed people; and conspiracy, planning, incitement and complicity to commit genocide and crimes against humanity during the 1971 war.
The 89-year-old Jamaat leader was arrested and sent to jail on January 11.
