Padma Bridge Project China places $2.4bl proposal

DHAKA: State-owned Exim Bank of China and the Poly Technologies, a subsidiary of China Poly Group Corporation, jointly placed a $2.4 billion proposal in the much-talked-abput multipurpose Padma Bridge project.

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader came up with the disclosure while talking to journalists at his secretariat office on Tuesday.

Earlier, the minister held meeting with delegations of the two organizations.

Emerging from the meeting, he said, “Though they submitted their proposal some days ago but formal talks was held on Tuesday.  The government is considering their proposal positively.”

The minister also said, “We have already sent the proposal to Economic Relations Department (ERD).”

He added: “Our technical committed will review it. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be inked between two countries soon if the proposal is considered as favorable and logical for Bangladesh.”

When asked about the date of the MoU signing, the ruling Awami League lawmaker said, “It cannot be said right now. The rate of interest will be a big issue as well.”

During the meetings, two Chinese organizations expressed their interest in various infrastructure sectors of the country, he added.
