MP Rony sent to jail

DHAKA: A Dhaka court sent ruling Awami League MP Golam Mawla Rony to jail after rejecting bail plea on Thursday afternoon.

Dhaka Metropolitan magistrate M Ashikur Rahman passed the order after bail hearing.

Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police took him to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court at around 12:15pm by a white-colored car.

On Wednesday, Golam Mawla Rony MP was arrested shortly after a Dhaka Court had issued arrest warrant against him canceling his bail in the case of assaulting TV journalists.

Earlier on July 21, Dhaka Metropolitan magistrate Rezaul Karim bailed him out upon a bond of TK 5,000 bond when Rony pleaded for bail after surrendering before the court Sunday.

On Saturday, authorities of Independent Television filed case against MP Rony and 20/25 other unknown persons for their alleged involvement in physically assaulting two journalists of the TV channel. MP Roni and others were accused for attempt to murder, vandalism and arson.

Later, Golam Mawla Rony filed a counter case against Salman F Rahman, owner of the Independent Television, and two others on Saturday night.

He filed the case with Shahbagh police station in allegations of claiming extortion from him and threatening the kill him.
