Hefajat-AL clashes in Faridpur AL man chopped dead, 30 hurt

FARIDPUR: An activist of ruling Awami League was killed and 30 others injured during sporadic clashes between activists of Hefajat-e-Islam and Awami League in Bhanga crossing of the district on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Nowsher Khan, 42. He was president of ward Awami League.

Witnesses said clash erupted when police and Awami League men obstructed a procession of Hefajat’s long march.

Hefajat men locked into chase and counter chase with cops and Awami League activists in the area, and police opened blank fire to take the situation under control.

Later Hefajat men attacked with lethal arms, and chopped and beat Nowsher to death and 30 others injured.

Tension mounting as Hefajat and Awami League activists took position in the area.
