Dhaka blockade May 5 Hefajat calls hartal for Monday

DHAKA: Hefajat-e-Islam called countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal for Monday to press home their 13-point demand including trial of Atheist bloggers and protesting “obstructions”.
Maolana Abu Junayed Babu Nagori made the hartal announcement from the grand rally of the party at capital’s Motijheel on Saturday afternoon.
The leader of the organization also threatened the government to blockade Dhaka on May 5 if their demands are not met by April 30.

He also declared to arrange rally in different important districts of the country from April 11 to 30.

The leaders also branded prominent writer Muntasir Mamoon, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote President Nasiruddin Yusuf Bachchu and Gonojagoron Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker as atheists and demanded their immediate arrest.

Abu Junayed also said, “Our demand is not any political demand. The demand is not for ousting or assuming power of anybody. But if anyone wants to remain in power, they will have to meet the demand.”

Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, Ameer of Hefajat, led the rally which began at 11:00am.

Dhaka’s business hub Motijheel turned into a human sea as thousands of people poured into the area to join the rally of radical Islamist.

The first session of the rally started through recitation from the Holy Quran and continued over three hours.
