Dhaka, Jul 19 A group of students has enforced a strike at the Dhaka University on Wednesday as authorities failed to announce a date to hold the DUCSU (Dhaka University Central Students' Union) polls within the deadline given by them.
The protesting students' platform – Shikhkharthi Adhikar Mancha – took position in front of several entrances of the university and put under lock and key several buildings including the Arts faculty, Curzon Hall and IBA.
The platform's spokesperson Nur-e-Alam Durjoy said they did not have any political agenda. "DUCSU is the right of the students," he said.
"We will go for large-scale demonstration if the authorities do not announce date for the [DUCSU] polls even after today's (Thursday) strike," Durjoy said.
Later the protesting students gathered in front of the Arts faculty and held a rally there.
The Dhaka University students had been demonstrating under the non-political platform's banner for long. They had also moved the court to this end.
The last election to DUCSU was held on July 6, 1990.
