Adieu Humayun Ahmed

Legendary writer Humayun Ahmed was laid to eternal rest at his most cherished place Nuhash Palli Tuesday afternoon.
His admirers, fans, well-wishers, relatives and villagers paid an emotional farewell to the best storyteller, our correspondent covering the event reports from the spot.
Humayun was laid to final rest in the sylvan meadow under the shadow of litchi orchard around 2:05pm following his third namaz-e-janaza.
Earlier, hundreds of people lined up along the road in Gazipur as a convoy following the freezing vehicle carrying the body of Humayun reached Nuhash Palli around noon.
Relatives of the acclaimed writer including his wife Meher Afroz Shaon, daughters Nova Ahmed and Sheela Ahmed; son Nuhash Ahmed and brother Mohammad Zafar Iqbal and his wife Yasmeen Haque also joined the procession of mourners.
Earlier, the convoy of about 25 vehicles that started its journey from the mortuary of Birdem Hospital around 9:10am reached Nuhash Palli around 12:10pm.
On Monday, thousands of people irrespective of caste and creed, religion and political parties paid their last homage to the playwright at Central Shaheed Minar.
Later, his second namaz-e-janaza was held at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises. His first janaza was held at Jamaica Muslim Centre in New York on Friday (BST)
Earlier in the wee hours on Tuesday, after a day-long suspense over selection of burial site, his family reached a consensus on burying the novelist at Nuhash Palli.
The breakthrough was the result of a spate of meetings spanning nearly seven-hours that were held between second wife of Humayun and the acclaimed writer's three children from his first wife--Nova Ahmed, Sheela Ahmed and Nuhash Ahmed.
LGED State Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote President Nasiruddin Yusuf Bachchu, and Channel-i Managing Director Faridur Reza Sagar and chief of news Shaikh Siraj mediated between Shaon and the three children of Humayun.
Mohammad Zafar Iqbal, brother of Humayun, emerging from a meeting held at the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar residence of Nanak around 2:15am Tuesday told reporters about the decision.
Earlier, on her arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Monday morning, Shaon said her husband's last wish was to be buried at Nuhash Palli.
Following the development, Humayun’s three children told reporters that they want their father to be buried at a place where everybody can visit his grave and offer prayers.
The children announced their decision at the writer's mother's residence in Mirpur Monday evening.
In the wake of this situation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her concern over the issue and the LGED state minister stepped in to resolve the crisis.
Humayun, who was also a famed filmmaker, died at Manhattan's Bellevue Hospital in New York Thursday night (BST) after a nine-month fight with colon cancer.
