Coast guard personnel on Tuesday seized the cargo boat which was responsible for the launch capsize in the Meghna river in Munshiganj that left 147 people dead last month.
The law enforcers also arrested six staff of the cargo – ‘MV City-1’ – our Munshiganj correspondent reported quoting Sakiul Alam, a petty officer of the Coast Gurad.
Describing the drive, he told The Daily Star that acting on a tip-off that the cargo was heading towards Dhaka from Barisal, the Coast Guard men waylaid the boat in the Meghna river at Ekhlashpur area of Chandpur.
They seized the cargo around 10:30am from there with six of its staff.
The cargo will be handed over to the authorities of Narayanganj Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), said Alam.
The ‘MV Shariatpur-1’ sank at Gazaria area in Munshiganj on March 13 night after ‘MV City-1’ hit it and sped away.
