Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Sunday that India and Pakistan are willing to find ‘practical and pragmatic solutions’ to a number of bilateral issues between the two countries.
“We have a number of issues and we are willing to find practical and pragmatic solutions to those and that is the message we both want to convey,” the Indian prime minister told reporters after around half-an-hour meeting with visiting Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari in New Delhi on Sunday.
The Indian prime minister termed the talks with Zardari on bilateral issues ‘constructive and friendly’, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
Emerging from a one-on-one meeting at Singh’s official residence on Race Course Road, Zardari told media that “We have had very fruitful talks and Pakistan would like to have better relations with India.”
Singh, for his part, said “I am satisfied with the outcome of the talks and I have accepted President Zardari’s invitation to visit Pakistan.”
Although no date has been announced for Singh’s visit to Pakistan or no such announcement is expected on Sunday, official sources said it may take place before the end of this year.
After the talks with Singh, Zardari and his delegation that included his son 24-year-old Bilawal Bhutto Zardari attended a lunch hosted by the Indian PM.
Zardari arrived in India earlier in the day for the first visit by a Pakistani head of state for seven years.
The Pakistani president met with the Indian prime minister before travelling to the shrine of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti at Ajmer. The Pakistan President is set to fly to Ajmer later today before returning to Pakistan.
