Joy plans to cut internet price

DHAKA: Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has unveiled his plan to reduce the price of internet in a bid to build ‘Digital Bangladesh’.

Joy made the disclosure through a post update on his facebook at 8:30pm Sunday.

The post is as follows--

I have an update on the price of internet. Recently our Government has reduced the wholesale rate to Tk. 4800 from Tk. 18,000.

In four years we have reduced this rate from Tk. 80,000 to Tk. 4800 per Mb, which is a 94% decrease! Retail rates have decreased too and you can get a 1 Mb connection for approximately Tk. 1500.

However, I do plan to reduce this further. My goal is to have 5 Mb connections available for Tk. 4000. A 1 Mb connection will be under Tk. 1000. We already have a plan for this and it will happen soon after the elections if the Awami League is re-elected.

But that`s not enough. Within five years I plan to bring 25 Mb connections for Tk. 5000. For Tk. 1000 you should be able to get a 5 Mb connection and a 1 Mb connection should only be around Tk. 200. Yes, this is very possible and I have a plan to implement this. This will happen within the Awami League`s next term.
