DHAKA: European Union (EU) has not yet decided to send observers in the upcoming general election of Bangladesh.
This was clarified on Saturday in a press release issued in this regard on Saturday.
The new release read: “We have repeatedly stated that the current mission in Dhaka is fact-finding and exploratory. It has not yet reached any conclusions.”
It also said: “The decision whether to deploy observers, and under what circumstances, will be taken at the appropriate time, in accordance with established procedures, by the EU Vice-President and High Representative Catherine Ashton.”
It also termed the reports that appeared in the written press on the finalization of an observer team as “wrong”.
Ambassador William Hanna, Head of the EU Delegation in Dhaka is leading the team that is currently visiting the country from September 7 for 15 days.
