Adilur to be tried in Cyber Crime Tribunal

DHAKA: Secretary Adilur Rahman and director Nasir Uddin Elan of Odhikar, a human rights organization, will be tried under Cyber Crime Tribunal for their alleged involvement in publishing false report and photographs over death toll of a police crackdown of Hefajat-e-Islam rally in the city.

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bikash Kumar Saha ordered to transfer the case to Cyber Crime Tribunal, Tejgaon, when police submitted charge against Adilur and Elan to the court on Thursday.

Confirming the matter, GRO of CMM court-adhering thana Kutubul Alam told banglanews, “All the documents related to the case have been sent to Cyber Crime Tribunal, Tejgaon on Thursday.”

DB Inspector Asraful Alam, on Wednesday, submitted the charge against Adilur and Elan to the CMM court under the sections of 57 (1), 57 (2) of ICT Act-2006 and penal code 505 (C) (D), 505-A.

In their Investigation, Detective Branch (DB) of Police found that Odhikar claim of 61 deaths in the May 5 police crackdown as false and pressed charge sheet against the rights workers.

On August 10, a cyber crime team of Detective Branch of DMP held the former attorney general and human rights activist Adilur Rahman from his Gulshan residence for his alleged involvement in violation of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Act.

Adilur is now in Kashimpur Central Jail.
