Reader's Chose Quiet Man As Best Place to Spend St. Patrick's Day


The Quiet Man Public House has only been around for about eight months, but locals have quickly decided that it is their go to place for St. Patrick's Day tomorrow.

The QMPH won with 27 votes, which was 62 percent of the total votes. The Irish pub's win is not too surprising. Brodie's Pub came in second place with 13 percent of the votes. Others said they would celebrate by attending mass at Assumption Church and only one voter noted that they would be attending the New York City St. Patrick's Day parade.

The Quiet Man Public House has a truly authentic feel since it's owners and several employees are friends and family who were bron and raised in County Mayo, Ireland.

Owner Chuck McGreal moved to Peekskill 11 years ago and he and his brother Joseph designed their bar to represents the pubs they grew up with back home. The recipes are straight from their mothers' recipes. She spent time here before opening day making sure their current chef knew had to prepare her traditional Irish fare.

On top of that, McGreal takes his Guinness very seriously. He has a whole system set up just for the Guinness tap in order to ensure it is poured at the correct temperature and handled properly.

মাসুদ আলম : মঙ্গলবার (৬ ডিসেম্বর) দুপুরে নিজ কার্যালয়ে ডিএমপির ডিসি (মিডিয়া) মো. ফারুক হোসেন বলেন, ঢাকা মহানগর পুলিশের পক্ষ থেকে আমরা রাস্তার ওপর জনসমাবেশ করার অনুমতি দেব না। আমরা সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যানে সমাবেশ করার যে অনুমতি দিয়েছি, তা এখনও বহাল আছে।   আগামী ১০ ডিসেম্বর টঙ্গী বিশ্ব ইজতেমার মাঠ অথবা পূর্বাচলে আন্তর্জাতিক বাণিজ্য মেলার মাঠে বিএনপি সমাবেশ করতে চাইলে ডিএমপির কোনো আপত্তি থাকবে না। তিনি আরও বলেন, আগামী ১০ ডিসেম্বর সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যানে অনুমতি দেওয়া হয়েছে। অনুমতি দেওয়ার পরেও ডিএমপি কমিশনারের সঙ্গে তারা দেখা করে বিকল্প ভেন্যুর প্রস্তাব নিয়ে এসেছিলেন। বিএনপির পক্ষ থেকে আরামবাগে বিকল্প ভেন্যুর জন্য মতিঝিল বিভাগের ডিসির কাছে প্রস্তাব দেওয়া হয়। প্রস্তাবটি আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে ডিএমপি কমিশনারের কাছে আসেনি। ডিসি আরও বলেন, তবে ঢাকা মহানগর পুলিশের পক্ষ থেকে এখন পর্যন্ত বিকল্প ভেন্যুর কোনো চিন্তা করা হয়নি। কোনো রাস্তার ওপরে ডিএমপি অনুমতি দেবে না। বিএনপির সমাবেশকে কেন্দ্র করে আইনশৃঙ্খলা পরিস্থিতি রক্ষায় যে ধরনের কার্যক্রম নেওয়া দরকার ডিএমপি তা নিয়েছে বলেও উল্লেখ করেন পুলিশের এই কর্মকর্তা। সোহরাওয়

Jamaat blasts cocktails, vandalise bus in city

23 held at Jatrabari, Paltan   Activists of Jamaat-e-Islami set fire to a tyre on the Farmgate-Shahbagh road at Karwan Bazar Monday afternoon a day ahead of their countrywide hartal.  Activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir blasted at least seven cocktails at the city's Karwan Bazar Monday afternoon a day ahead of their countrywide hartal. Shortly before 7:00pm, the pro-hartal activists set fire to three tyres on the Farmgate-Shahbagh road at Karwan Bazar, creating panic among the commuters and locals in the area, witnesses said. Following the incident, a readymade garments factory and other business establishments were shut in the area. The witnesses added that three to four youths aged between 25 and 26 blasted the cocktails and set the tyres on fire.
