The President extended the
invitation after Hasina went to meet him at the Bangabhaban on Thursday after
taking oath as an MP and getting elected as the Leader of the
House.
Ihsanul Karim, Press Secretary to the President, told reporters:
"She (Hasina) requested the President to start the process of forming the 10th
Parliament.
"The President invited the Prime Minister to form a [new]
government."
Earlier in the day, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury
administered oath to the newly elected MPs. Hasina took oath in the morning with
the other MPs. Her party later elected her as the Leader of the
House.
Asked if the Prime Minister had handed over any list of proposed
Cabinet members, Karim said they did not have any such information.
The
President is expected to administer the oath of office to the new Cabinet
members at the Bangabhaban on Sunday.
The Awami League-led alliance is
set to form the government for the second consecutive term seven days after the
general elections.
Hasina is going to be the Prime Minister for the third
time. Her party bagged 231 out of 300 parliamentary seats in Sunday's polls
boycotted by the BNP and its allies.
