Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, elected
from Rangpur-3 constituency, was absent due to ‘illness’.
But other
Jatiya Party MPs took oath with Ershad’s wife and Jatiya Party Presidium member
Raushan Ershad leading the way on Thursday.
The Jatiya Party leaders,
however, said Ershad, who has been in hospital ever since he dramatically
announced his boycott of the polls, could take oath anytime.
At a press
conference on Wednesday, Raushan had said Ershad had given his consent and would
take oath later.
On whether Ershad would take oath, Raushan said on
Thursday, “Ask the chairman about that.”
Others who did not take oath are
Awami League leaders Nazmul Hassan Papan from Kishoreganj-6 constituency and
Saber Hossain Chowdhury from Dhaka-9, Jatiya Party leader Nasim Osman from
Narayanganj-5 and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal leader Moinuddin Khan Badal from
Chittagong-8.
They were currently abroad, sources said.
The
Election Commission on Wednesday published gazette for 290 seats.
Since
Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, who won from two constituencies in the
election held last Sunday, vacated Rangpur-6, 289 MPs elect were set to take
oath.
