Ershad’s health condition remains unchanged: GM Quade

The condition of Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, who is now undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka, remained unchanged, his brother GM Quader said today. “His lungs Infections have eased but the kidney is in serious condition. His overall condition remains unchanged,” GM Quader told The Daily Star.

Asked whether he will be put on life support, GM Quader said Ershad is not in such a bad condition for which he needs life support.
Ershad, now 89, was given oxygen support as his health condition deteriorated again on Sunday.Yesterday evening, Quader, also the party acting chairman, said his brother was given oxygen support due to respiratory problem as his lung infection worsened. 
On June 27, Ershad was admitted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. He was being treated there for several infections. Over the last nine months, the former military ruler has been suffering from various health-related issues.

Bishwajit killer Shakil remanded

A Dhaka court on Sunday placed Rafiqul Islam Shakil, the key accused of Bishwajit Das killing case, on an eight-day remand. Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Erfan Ullah passed the order after Tajul Islam, an inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Police, produced Shakil before it seeking a 10-day remand. In the forwarding report, Tajul Islam, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, said Shakil is the prime accused in the case. They identified Shakil from photos and video footages of the murder scene where Shakil hacked Bishwajit with a machete on December 9 in Sutrapur of Old Dhaka. So, the accused need to be remanded to find out vital clues about the killing and the whereabouts of their other accomplices responsible for committing such offence, the IO said. 78.67pc pass HSC exam

Dhaka, Jul 18 This year 78.67 percent has passed the Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations and 61,162 got GPA-5. The Education Minister Nurul Islam has submitted a copy of the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban Wednesday morning. Chairmen of different education boards were present there. Last year, 75.08 percent passed the HSC and equivalent examinations and 39,759 got GPA-5. This year Sylhet board has the highest passing rate of 85.37 percent. Dhaka board follows with 81.89 percent, Comilla with 74.56, Rajshahi 78.44 percent, Dinajpur 75.41 percent, Chittagong 72.29 percent, Jessore 67.87 percent and Barisal with 66.98 percent. The pass rate under the Madrasah board is 91.77 percent while the vocational board has 84.32 percent successful students.
