Ershad’s condition slightly improved: GM Quader

Jatiya Party acting chairman GM Quader on Wednesday said the kidney and lung conditions of his brother HM Ershad, now undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka, had improved slightly.‘Doctors said if the improvement trend continues for two-three days, HM Ershad will recover speedily,’ he said.

GM Quader came up with the remarks while speaking at a press conference at Jatiya Party chairman's Banani office at around 1:00pm.
The Jatiya Party acting chairman said he visited his brother at the CMH at around 11:00am and kept his hand on his forehead. ‘He (Ershad) opened his eyes and heard what I told him.’
He urged the country's people to pray for Ershad's quick recovery.
Ershad, also the leader of the opposition in parliament, was admitted to the CMH on June 26 as his condition deteriorated.
The former military ruler has been suffering from various old age complications, including low haemoglobin and liver and kidney problem, high bilirubin and serious keen pain.

Bishwajit killer Shakil remanded

A Dhaka court on Sunday placed Rafiqul Islam Shakil, the key accused of Bishwajit Das killing case, on an eight-day remand. Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Erfan Ullah passed the order after Tajul Islam, an inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Police, produced Shakil before it seeking a 10-day remand. In the forwarding report, Tajul Islam, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, said Shakil is the prime accused in the case. They identified Shakil from photos and video footages of the murder scene where Shakil hacked Bishwajit with a machete on December 9 in Sutrapur of Old Dhaka. So, the accused need to be remanded to find out vital clues about the killing and the whereabouts of their other accomplices responsible for committing such offence, the IO said. 78.67pc pass HSC exam

Dhaka, Jul 18 This year 78.67 percent has passed the Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations and 61,162 got GPA-5. The Education Minister Nurul Islam has submitted a copy of the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban Wednesday morning. Chairmen of different education boards were present there. Last year, 75.08 percent passed the HSC and equivalent examinations and 39,759 got GPA-5. This year Sylhet board has the highest passing rate of 85.37 percent. Dhaka board follows with 81.89 percent, Comilla with 74.56, Rajshahi 78.44 percent, Dinajpur 75.41 percent, Chittagong 72.29 percent, Jessore 67.87 percent and Barisal with 66.98 percent. The pass rate under the Madrasah board is 91.77 percent while the vocational board has 84.32 percent successful students.
