Hasina, Ershad, others pay respects to Zillur

Acting President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Chief Justice Mohammad Muzammel Hossain placed wreaths on the coffin of Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban on Thursday afternoon.BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia visited Bangabhaban to pay last respects to Zillur Rahman around 2:00pm. She was wearing a black badge. She was accompanied by her party members.

Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad, accompanied by his party members, reached Bangabhaban to pay his last respects around 2:30pm.

Khaleda pays respects to Zillur

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia placed wreath on the coffin of Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban on Thursday to pay her last respects to the late President.

Accompanied by top party leaders, Khaleda Zia reached Bangabhaban at around 2:00pm. She placed wreath at Rahman’s coffin placed in Darbar Hall there.

Later, she spoke to Rahman’s son Nazmul Hassan Papon and signed in the mourning register.

SQ Chy allowed power of attorney

The first war crimes tribunal of Bangladesh on Thursday directed jail authorities to allow BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury to sign a power of attorney to fight defamation.

The BNP MP from Chittagong, son of former Acting President of Pakistan Fazlul Quader Chowdhury, has been indicted for 23 war crimes charges.

The three-judge International Crimes Tribunal – 1, set up to try crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War, indicted the six-time MP on Apr 13.

President Zillur Rahman passes away

DHAKA: President Zillur Rahman breathed his last at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on Wednesday afternoon (Bangladesh time).
He was 84.

Earlier, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on March 11.

1 held over Twaki killing, remand sought

Police on Wednesday moved the court praying for 10-day remand of a youth ‘arrested’ in connection with the killing of Narayanganj student Tanvir Muhammad Twaki.

Rifaat, 22, was nabbed in Kalirbazar area and shown arrested in the murder case, Officer in Charge of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station SM Manjur Kader said.
Twaki, son of Narayanganj Sangskritik Jote leader Rafiur Rabbi, went missing on Mar 6. The body of the 17-year-old A-Level student of ABC International School was recovered from the bank of the Shitalakkhya River two days later.

Independence Day: 8 prisoners get amnesty in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: The authorities concerned of Rajshahi Central Jail released eight prisoners after President’s amnesty on Wednesday.
