The ruling Awami League has requested the Election Commission to take steps to stop the countrywide violence.
The party's Election Coordination Committee's convener Muhiuddin Khan
Alamgir filed a written petition to the EC on Sunday with the request.
"We have requested for proper action to stop the violence in polling centres. We have filed an application on behalf of the party to the EC," he told mediapersons after meeting Election commissioner Md Shahnewaz.
According to the Awami League leader, voter turnout was low in the morning due to cold weather, but it is increasing as the day progressed.

Tarique calls for poll boycott
BNP chief Khaleda Zia's elder son Tarique Rahman has called for a boycott of the Jan 5 parliament polls in Bangladesh.
He circulated his appeal through a video message posted on the website of a social media.
Tarique Rahman is BNP's Senior Vice Chairman and has been living in London since 2008.
He joined his mother in lambasting the government for trying to hold a 'farcical' election.
"The time has come for all of us to prevent and boycott the Jan 5 polls. Not for personal interest but for the sake of the country's existence," said Rahman.
The 18-party Opposition alliance led by the BNP has called a 48-hour nationwide strike from Saturday to thwart the poll.

four-point formula to break the political stalemate casting a shadow on
the legitimacy of Sunday elections to the national parliament.
Harun-Or-Rashid, Vice Chancellor of National University says the current crisis can be resolved by unquestioningly executing the verdict of war crimes tribunal, clamping a ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, convincing all political parties to participate in elections and running the country in the true spirit of the Liberation War.
Mr Rashid made the remarks at a seminar organised by Bangladesh Economic Association in a city hotel on Saturday.

Bangladesh to host Asia Cup
DHAKA: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has affirmed that Bangladesh will remain the host of the Asia Cup 2014.
The decision came after a high profile meeting of ACC officials at Colombo in a bid to ease the schedule complexes and venue issues of 12th Asia Cup following the recent political unrest in Bangladesh.
Afghanistan will be the fifth team in Asia’s biggest cricket tournament. A total of 11 matches will be played in the tournament with the opening game expected to be on February 25 and the final on March 8, 2014.

'Jamaat men' torch Gaibandha polling centre
A band of armed men have torched a polling centre at Gaibandha's Sadullahpur Upazila and snatched election materials a day before Bangladesh goes to polls.
Suspected activists of the Jamaat-e-Islami, a
key ally of the main opposition party BNP, attacked the Tajnagar Government
Primary School on Saturday afternoon and held the Presiding Officer hostage at
gunpoint.
They took away the ballot papers, ballot boxes and other materials from the polling centre at the Upazila's Idilpur Union, Presiding Officer Sabdar Rahman, a Lecturer at the Sadullahpur Degree College, said.

Stop arson in schools: Nahid
Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid has called upon the people to prevent schools from being set on fire.
At a press conference on Saturday at his residence, Nahid requested
security forces for beefing up security at the polling stations.
Almost 100 voting centres across the country, mostly schools, have been come under attack since Friday night by Opposition activists out to thwart the polls on Sunday.
"The Opposition has created such a situation in pursuit of their movement that students, parents, even animals are not safe," said Nahid.
