100 pc voter turnout not normal: CEC Nurul Huda

Noting that 100 percent voter turnout in any polling station is not ‘normal’, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on Sunday said the Commission has nothing to do with it once the gazette of the election result is published. “I think, hundred percent voter turnout in any polling station is not a normal matter,” CEC KM Nurul Huda said.

5 'Ansar Al Islam' members held in Rajshahi

Attack on Hasina: 30 BNP men sent to Pabna jail

A Pabna court today sent 30 BNP leaders and activists to jail after rejecting their bail prayers in a case filed for attacking Sheikh Hasina, the then opposition leader and now prime minister, in 1994.
The case was filed accusing 52 BNP men after Sheikh Hasina came under the attack as soon as the train carrying her reached Ishwardi Railway Station during a countrywide campaign by rail on September 23, 1994.

‘Indecent summon’: Journalists protest ‘inaction’ of ACC

Covering their faces in black cloths, journalists today formed a human chain in front of the Anti-Corruption Commission’s headquarters for not withdrawing what they claimed an “indecent summon” of their fellow. Parliament passes Tk 5,23,190 cr national budget for 2019-20 FY

Parliament on Sunday passed the Tk 5,23,190 crore national budget for the fiscal year 2019-20, themed as ‘Bangladesh on a Pathway to Prosperity: Time is Ours, Time for Bangladesh’. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal moved the Appropriations Bill, 2019 seeking a budgetary allocation of Tk 6,42,478.27 crore which was passed by voice vote.

DIG Mizan seeks bail from High Court

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman has sought bail from the High Court on Sunday in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), reports UNB.
ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said the bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman may hear the petition on Monday.

43 containers drop from ship at Bay of Bengal

A total of 43 containers were dropped on the sea from a local cargo ship while it was heading towards Dhaka’s Pangaon from Chattogram.The incident was took place on Sunday morning as the ship was caught in heavy weather near the Hatia Channel of the Bay of Bengal.

Action if negligence by cops found in Rifat murder: Home minister

UNB, Dhaka : Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today said action will be taken if negligence of any member of the police force is found in the Rifat murder case.
"Those involved in the incident won't be spared and a bit more time will be needed to arrest the attackers," he said while talking to reporters at the Secretariat. The minister further said, "Killing a young man in broad day light is not acceptable to us. It is a heinous crime."

Gas price will be increased for all users by 32.8% from July 1

The energy regulator has decided to increase gas price by 32.8 per cent for all users from July 1. The price of the single burner will rise to Tk 925 per month from Tk 750 while the price of the double burner will rise to Tk 975 from Tk 800, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Monowar Islam said today.

Nusrat murder: Ex-OC Moazzem denied meeting counsels


Former OC of Sonagazi Police Station Moazzem Hossain was not allowed to meet his lawyers today.
Moazzem, the accused of a case file for filming a statement of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi and circulating the clip on social media,  appealed to Dhaka Cyber Tribunal to meet his counsels, but Ash Sams Joglul Hossain, the judge of the court, dismissed the petition.
