The authorities closed Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) for an indefinite period this morning following a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League.The male students have been asked to vacate their dormitories by 1:00pm while female students by 5:00pm today, reports our Chittagong correspondent.The university took the decision at an emergency meeting in the morning, CUET Registrar Faruque-Uz-Zaman told The Daily Star.
The students were seen leaving the halls – four for male while one for female -- till 11:30am when the report was filed.
The activists of two rival factions of BCL, student wing of ruling Awami League, locked into a clash at the middle of Bangabandhu and Qudrat-E-Khuda halls around 10:00pm yesterday following establishing supremacy over the campus, local sources said.BCL Joint-Convener of Cuet unit Shamim Talha Jim was stabbed during the clash and was later rushed to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital.
Soon after the incident, the university authorities held an emergency meeting last night to take effective measures to calm the situation.
The authorities sat in another emergency meeting this morning and decided to close the university, the Cuet registrar said.
